Bláthú’s Quality Standards for Steiner, and Steiner-inspired, Early Childhood Education Services, 2025

In 2023, we announced the minimum standards that Bláthú would expect of our member services, and thatthese would be implemented over the next three years.

Member services that maintain these standards will be provided with a certificate to display publicly in their service stating that they meet the standards.

These are:

  •  Staff Training:
Each member service should have at least 1 fully trained Steiner Waldorf Early Childhood teacher working in their service, or have one staff member currently undertaking training.

  • Commitment to Continuing Professional Development by:
Engaging in a minimum of 2 full days of relevant CPD per service per year. This could include :
o   Attendance at in-person and online CPD workshops offered by Bláthú,  or,
o   Participation by staff members on a Steiner Waldorf Early Childhood training programme, whether in Ireland or abroad, or a foundation course in Anthroposophy, is considered as relevant CPD.
o   Bláthú recommends that each staff member attend a minimum of 1 CPD per annum.

  • Mentoring:
A minimum of 1 mentoring visit per service per school year, to include a follow-up Zoom call within 6 weeks of the mentoring visit. This ensures we stay truly connected to each of our member services and can stay updated with what our services most need from Bláthú.
Bláthú offers a considerable discount when a service commits to a series of 3 pre-booked visits in a year. We highly recommend that your service avail of this.
Please note: On the day of a mentoring visit, there comes a time of reflection, a two-way conversation about the day, to talk about any observations and issues that arose. This is when the NDO gives feedback, and is also for planning further actions. As this all takes time, a minimum of 2 hours should be set aside for this crucial part of the mentoring process.

  • Attendance at Annual Conference:
That each member service send a minimum of 1 staff representative to Bláthú’s annual conference. This helps ensure that our Annual One-Day Conference is truly a day of connecting with each other, networking and community building as well as an opportunity for sharing knowledge and skills.

Member services that come close, but do not quite meet all the standards, may receive a certificate stating that they are "Steiner-inspired" kindergartens.
